I first heard of The Habit from my brother who raved about how awesome this place was by his work. My boyfriend then piped in and reminisced about going to the location in Santa Barbra while he was going to college there. It was then decided we'd meet at the one my brother had gone to in Lake Forest with some other friends to see how these burgers stacked up.
I ordered the Teriyaki Charburger. "Grilled pineapple, mayonnaise, pickle, fresh tomato, lettuce and carmelized onions on a toasted bun". $3.25
The meat, cooked just right, tender, and juicy. The buns were nice and spongy, toasted, but not too dry and considering I had terriyaki sauce it did not fall apart by the time I got to my last couple of bites. I ordered it with everything on it, lettuce (which was chopped and made it easy to eat), tomato, and grilled onion (also chopped which made it less messy to eat), and pickles. The teriyaki sauce with the pineapple added a nice sweet and juicy awesomeness... I am biased because of my giant sweet tooth. Lastly I did add Swiss cheese, which was extra, but so worth it!
For $3.25 ($3.75 with cheese) this burger is pretty freakin' bomb. I returned again this week with coworkers and everyone was pleased with their burgers. . The burgers are also fairly large and quite filling I recommend sharing an order of fries between two or three people.
The Habit menu is pretty darn good bang for your buck. I highly recommend giving the Habit a try. At the location I went to the staff was super friendly and the whole process from ordering to getting your food went by pretty fast. An employee walked by to clear our table and offered to refill our drinks even though its a self serve restaurant. However, I was a little disappointed that they will not do a Neapolitan milk shake like In & Out. Whhhyyyy? :(

To add to the teriyaki burger comments, I -don't- have a sweet tooth, but still enjoyed it. The sauce isn't so sweet as to overpower the rest of the burger flavor.
ReplyDeleteJust had a double-char today (their double burger) and I'm still impressed with the way that the bun doesn't just disintegrate by the end. I think the reeeeeaaaaal thin layer of mayo/sauce on the bottom bun keeps the juices out of the bun but still in the burger. The flavors are balanced for a fast food joint - the taste of the meat isn't overbearing and none of the other ingredients kill the flavor of the meat.
For added flavor, try to take a small bite of the chili peppers (free condiment) they have. It's a nice sour/spicy touch, just beware the seeds therein - those are pretty hot.
One last comment on the shakes - when I asked why they wouldn't do a neapolitan shake, the answer i got was because it was hand scooped ice-cream which is blended, so they can't get the separation. In-N-Out is machine poured. :)
